Notes from Notts

It’s interesting to get the opportunity to speak to students across the country about their perceptions of the investment industry, especially when it becomes a debate about how it relates to them as individuals or to other career paths they have in mind.
On this day at Bluecoat Sixth Form one student asked about the best ways to raise capital to become a self published author and another asked whether it would be best to use debt or equity to fund the catering business they want to set up. Three lads in another session started an ad hoc debate about the benefits of portfolio diversification. One spotted that combining uncorrelated assets would reduce volatility of returns and another countered by saying as young people they should take maximum risk as any losses could be made back!
Rathbones Group Plc Investec Evelyn Partners etc take note – these are the next generation of wealth managers (and clients!).
